AUSTRIA
To be an aupair in Austria, you need the following
- Between ages 18-28 years
- Have basic knowledge of German
- Be available for max. 12 months stay
- – or – a summer stay of 9 weeks (July and August)
The Au pair will be expected to give quality childcare and become a reliable older
"sister" or "brother" for the children, care for them
and offer companionship, love and guidance. Additionally they may be asked
to do babysitting 1-2 evenings per week. Furthermore they will be responsible
of light household duties (e.g. ironing, light cleaning, washing, vacuuming,
preparing light meals).
You need to be

As an aupair in Austria you will

AUSTRALIA
You can spend a year in Australia on a work / holiday visa.
Documents Required to Apply:
- Completed application form
- Photocopy of your passport.
- Dear Host Family letter (should include your hobbies, activities, family background, childcare experience,
any special sports, musical, or arts & crafts talents, etc.)
- At least two references - preferably childcare
- Photo(s) of yourself.(Professional pictures or those with children, family members etc. are best.)
- Criminal record check (contact your local police station).
- Photocopy of any school or training certificates
- It is also beneficial if you have a driver’s license, or an international driver’s license (but not required).
Position
details vary depending on the needs of individual families; the norm for work
hours is a range of 20-40 hours per week, usually with two days off per week.
Usual salary range is approximately Aus $150 to $200 per week. Stays of 6
to 12 months are available; shorter stays are occasionally available as well.
(Before accepting a position you would have the opportunity to communicate
with interested host families directly, and read any written material regarding
their position.
BELGIUM
To be an aupair in Belgium, you need to meet the following requirements
- Be between 18 and 23
- it is forbidden to take any other work in Belgium than the one of aupair.
- the au pair must have finished secondary school. In case she applies before obtaining her diploma,
a certificate of the school, stating she finishes her last year of secondary school is sufficient.
- Have a basic knowledge of the one of the national languages, which means French, Dutch or German.
The host family should speak the language that she has basic knowledge in.
- The aupair should attend language courses regularly while in Belgium
- The girl should not have been previously an aupair in Belgium
The host family
- Provides a private bedroom, well furnished
- the family will allow the girl time for language course attendance
- families must take an insurance for the au pair for the whole duration of the stay.
That insurance will cover illness, hospitalization and accidents.
- the family must give 1 day free/week minimum and 1 full week-end/month.
- the family gives a pocket money of 12.000BF/month. This pocket money will be put on a bank account, only for the girl.
Nobody else can touch that money.
GENERAL CONDITIONS
- The duration of the stay is 12 months
- The aupair must obtain her work permit while she is in her country.
When the work permit is ready it is sent to the aupair and a few other documents she can obtain her visa at the Embassy.
The ministry advises the work permit will be given within 4 weeks after introduction of the file.
- If the girl is not happy in a family she can only change once to an other family for a continuation of her stay.
A temporary residence of 3 months will beissued at the Consulate, which will
be extended after registration of the aupair in Belgium. He/she has to register
at the Belgian Community within 8 days of arrival and to apply for a identity
card for foreigner
CANADA
Aupairs work in Canada under the Live-In Caregiver Program.
The Live-in Caregiver Program is a special program to bring workers to Canada to do live-in work as caregivers.
A "live-in caregiver" is someone who provides unsupervised care of children,
the elderly or the disabled in a private household.
Successful applicants receive an employment authorization allowing them to work in Canada as live-in caregivers.
After two years of employment, program allows participants to apply to become permanent residents in canada.
The two years of employment to qualify for permanent residence must be completed within three years of the
caregiver's arrival in Canada
FRANCE
To Participate as an aupair in France, you need to meet the following requirements.
- Be between the ages of 18 and 26
- Have at least minimal knowledge of French
- Be high school graduates
- Have at least minimal knowledge of French
- Be high school graduates
- Have attended school/college/university within the last 6 months
Aupair application requirements
- Completed application form
- At least one childcare and at least one character reference (non-relative)
- Letter to Host family (describe your hobbies/talents, your family, childcare experience,
and why you would like to be an au pair.)
- One or two pages of photographs (professional pictures, and those with children and family are best)
- Medical certificate (states that you are in good health)
- Birth certificate photocopy
- School or college diploma & transcript photocopy – translated into French
Visa application Requirements
- Passport valid for at least six months
- 2.. Long stay visa application forms completely and legibly filled out in French. Please print in black.
- 2.. Passport size photographs
- Employment contract signed by a "DDTEFP" (Direction départementale du travail ,
de l'emploi et de la formation professionnelle) depending on the French family residence ( + 1 copy ).
- Letter of admission from a French school in France
Benefits of being an aupair in France
‘Au Pair Classique’: maximum of 30 hours per week, Pocket money of 305 Euros per month plus a
Transport card. May be asked to babysit 2-3 evenings per week.
‘Au Pair Plus’: maximum of 35 hours per week, Pocket money of 396 Euros per month plus Transport card.
May be asked to babysit 1-2 times per week.
‘Summer Au Pair’: pocket money of 274 Euros per month.
- Host family pre-arranges your language course with a local school (*courses not applicable for summer stays)
- Free room and board (the au pair has his/her own room)
- Two weeks paid holidays for a stay of 12 months, and one week for a stay of 6 months.

GERMANY
Germany is a modern, wealthy and politically stable nation in the heart of Europe.

or Dresden- still play a vital part in German culture. Whether it’s
the coastline or the Alps, the Rhineland or the Black Forest: Germany invites
you to explore and enjoy its many beauties. Along the Rhine, Carnival is a
big thing: once a year, for one week, everything is upside down
Aupairs must be at least 17 – 27 years old. Au pairs from Non- European Union should not have attained
25 years when applying for visa.
To be an aupair in Germany should
- Be aged between 18 and 27; au pairs who need a visa must not be older than 24 years
- Have practical childcare experience such as babysitting, coaching, tutoring etc. (references required)
- Have completed their secondary education (high school diploma or equivalent training)
- Have sufficient German language skills (good command of English also desirable)
- Be available for 6 to 12 months; au pairs who need a visa must be available at least for 10 months
- Holding a valid driver’s license may improve the speed of placement
The aupair will be expected to
- Care for young children and help with minor housework in a host-family environment
for up to 30 hours per week (5 to 6 days per week, up to 5 hours per day)
- Baby-sit as arranged with the host family, up to 3 evenings per week

Healthcare and accident insurance are provided
The entry visa requires the previous approval of the local authority for foreigners at the residence of the host family.
The work permit is given on request by the locally responsible labour office.
It presupposes the presence of a valid residence permit or their promise.
Au pairs from outside the European Union need a valid passport of their country
of origin for the entry and for the duration of the stay intended. Citizens
of the European Union need only have a valid identity card for the duration
of their stay.
IRELAND
Families living in the Republic of Ireland can only host Au pairs from the
EU and from Iceland Norway and Lichtenstein.
Au
pairs from these countries only have to register with the Irish police when
they arrive but do not need any work permit.
Au pairs from other countries will be required to obtain a student visa if
the prospective applicant is registered to study English at an approved language
school. A student may do a part-time job to support themselves whilst studying.
Part-time cannot be more than 25 hours per week.
Eligibility
ITALY
An Au Pair is a single person, aged 18-30, who spends time in the Italy in order
to study Italian and Italian culture whilst living as part of a family. In
return for full board and lodging and pocket money they agree to help with
the children and perform light household duties. An Au-Pair is not a Aupair
and should not be left in sole charge of babies or young children aged under
2. The Au-Pair is not a housemaid - their responsibilities do not include
heavy housework unrelated to the children such as windows, cleaning the home
or polishing.
The au pair must have her own room (an exception might be made for holidays periods
in which the au pair might be asked to share the room with the children) and
must be able to attend Italian classes.
Responsibilities of the Au pair
- Waking the children, dressing them, bathing, playing and feeding them
- Preparing light meals or helping to prepare meals, making children's beds,
doing their laundry, ironing their clothes
- Taking/collecting children to and from school, appointments or outings requested by the host family
- Shopping, vacuuming, dusting and some other light housework
- Being home if necessary while children are absent from school due to illness or holidays
- Baby-sitting in the evenings on request
- The au pair has the right to get one whole day off a week which will be chosen in accordance to the family need.
The day off does not necessarily be a Sunday, but should include at least a Sunday a month.
Other holiday periods will be decided with the host family
Aupair that comes from outside of the EU, the following documentation is needed to
obtain a long stay visa:
A letter of admission at any Italian School or College where the Au pair-to-be
will be attending a course of Italian language. This school or College must
be legally acknowledged
("legalmente riconosciuto") and the above mentioned admission letter must be stamped
by the local police. The visa will be issued for the length of time of the
enrollment in school.
A return air ticket.
Travel
insurance and medical insurance
a written statement of support signed by the host family which must be stamped
by the local police.
Benefits
In addition to accommodation and meals, the au pair will receive a pocket money
to be paid weekly.
- For a service of 35 hours a week including 1 night babysitting the au pair will receive 77 Euro/week.
- For a service of 40 hours a week (au pair plus) including 1 night babysitting the amount due would be 88 Euro/week,
with one full day off.
Application Requirements
Along
with her completed application form, the candidates should provide:
- one or two pictures
- a medical certificate of good health
- a police certificate that they have no criminal records
- one or two letter of references
- a dear family letter
UK
By living and working with a British host family, you have the opportunity of
learning about the unique culture, and while caring for the host children,
you can gain valuable experience in the art of child care.
Au pairs are normally aged between 18-25 years old, and should have good English-speaking
skills. They should have some experience in child care, and should be a responsible
young adult of good character, who is serious about her commitment and responsibility
to her host family. The families always prefer the au pair to stay between
6 - 12 months, as this gives some stability to the children. Although it is
expensive to host
- Nationals of the EU can enter the UK without any formalities
- Members of the commonwealth will be required to obtain a holiday work visa.
- Nationals of the following countries can enter the UK on an aupair visa (maximum 2 years), if they are 17 - 27 years
old inclusive and only need to produce their invitation letter from the family/agency on entry into the UK:
Andorra, Faroe Islands, Monaco, Greenland, Republic of, Poland, Republic of Bulgaria, Republic of Hungary,
Republic of, Latvia, San Marino, Republic of Cyprus, Republic of Lithuania, Czech Republic, Republic of Slovenia,
Republic of Estonia, Republic of Malta.
- Nationals of the following countries can enter the UK on an aupair visa (maximum 2 years), if they are 17 - 27 years
old inclusive and need to obtain the visa prior to travelling to the UK: Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria,
Republic of Croatia, Macedonia, Romania, the Slovak Republic and Turkey
* US citizens cannot come to the UK as au pairs, the only way is to obtain a blue card.
At the end of your stay, you will receive a certificate confirming your completed
length of stay and participation in the programme.
Programmes Available
Au Pair: Au Pairs are 17 to 27 years of age
- Work 25 - 30 hours per week, with 2 evenings babysitting per week
- One week’s paid vacation per every 6 months worked
- Pocket money of 45-50 pounds per week
Au Pair Plus: Au Pair Plus candidates are 17 to 27 years of age
- Work 31 - 38 hours per week, with 2 evenings babysitting per week
- One week’s paid vacation per every 6 months worked
- Pocket money of 55-65 pounds per week
Mother’s Help: Mother’s Helpers must have prior childcare/Aupair experience.
- Work 40 - 45 hours per week, with 2 evenings babysitting per week
- Three weeks paid holiday per year worked (may vary, consult host family)
- Salary of approximately 100-130 pds per week
Nannies: Nannies must have formal education or training in a childcare course
- Work hours vary according to family. Hours agreed upon prior to job acceptance.
- Childcare, light housekeeping
- Three weeks paid holiday per year worked plus Public Holidays
- Salary of approximately 150-230 pds per week

- A collage of photos on a sheet of paper (we suggest professional photos of yourself with children and family, etc.).
Color photocopies of photos are very acceptable.
SWITZERLAND
Applicants
from any EU States, North America (USA & Canada) are accepted
South Africans are still blacklisted in Switzerland. All relevant documents

You can work as an au pair in Switzerland for a maximum of 18 months. You
will receive room and board with a host family in exchange for approximately
30 to 40 hours of weekly work (housework, baby-sitting, etc.). You are entitled
to one day off per week (at least one Sunday a month) and 4 weeks’ vacation
per year (5 weeks if you are less than 20 years old). You will be paid at
least 700 Swiss francs net per month (this may be more, depending on the canton).
Your employer is also obliged to enroll you in a language school. The host
family pay your health and accident insurance, as well as your language courses,
although they can deduct up to 10% of your salary to cover the costs.
THE NETHERLANDS
The Netherlands is a relatively small country located at the north-west corner
between Belgium, Germany, and the North Sea. It is a beautiful country with
great advantages of lots of attractions within a small area. Some interesting
cities include Amsterdam (the capital and popular tourist site), Den Haag
(home of Dutch government and many great parks, monuments and historic sites),
Rotterdam (a modern city and busy seaport), Utrecht (a central city and old
university town), and Groningen (a large northern city and lively university
community).
An authorization for temporary stay (MVV) is required for travel to the Netherlands
if you plan to stay for longer than three months. You may want to study or
live in with your partner in the Netherlands. During the application procedure
for a mvv it will be determined whether you meet the requirements for residence
in the Netherlands, before you arrive in the country.
- A MVV is a sticker placed in your passport. You can apply for one at the Dutch embassy or
consulate in your country of origin / residence. The MVV will allow you to cross the border in the Netherlands.
Within 8 days of your arrival in the Netherlands, you must request a residence permit from the
Foreign Police of the municipality in which you are residing of staying.
The Dutch embassy will never issue a visa for a short stay (a visa valid for a max. of 3 months)
if you intend to stay longer than three months.
- You will receive a residence permit if you meet all of the requirements for residence in the Netherlands.
- Who needs a MVV?
- Most foreign nationals who wish to stay in the Netherlands longer than 3 months and want to apply for a
residence permit must request a mvv in advance.
- Some foreign nationals do not need a MVV to apply for a residence permit in the Netherlands.
- Which exceptions apply?
- Some foreign nationals do not need a MVV to apply for a residence permit in the Netherlands.
- Subjects of the following countries are exempt:
Citizens of Member States of the EUROPEAN UNION:
Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain,
Sweden and the United Kingdom;
AND citizens of the following countries:
Australia, Canada, Iceland, Japan, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland (inclu. Liechtenstein) and the
United States of America.

Every au pair outside of EC countries will need a visa; Au pairs need to apply for
the au pair visa in their home country, with the Dutch Embassy of Consulate..
USA
You
can be able to travel to the United States with a one-year work visa to care
for the children of a family you choose.
Applicants must meet the following qualifications:
- Be aged 18 to 26 years old
- Hold a valid driver’s license
- have at least 200 hours recent, practical childcare experience, such as regular babysitting for non-family members,
helping at a local school, youth group, etc — your local interviewer can help you in classifying your experience.
- in order to care for children under 2 years old, the 200 hours experience must be with children under 2 and you
must be aged at least 19 years old
- have completed your secondary education (High School)
- Speak English
- not have a criminal record and be able to provide a police record check or certificate of good conduct
- agree to the programme’s code of conduct and rules
- agree to a full year’s commitment
- not have previously participated in an au pair programme to the USA
DENMARK
In Denmark an Au Pair will be expected to work approximately 30 hours
per week. Duties consist of childcare and general housework. In the evenings,
she may be needed to baby-sit for the family (three times a week maximum)
or help out with dinner.
Three options available to work as an aupair in Denmark
‘Au Pair’: Pocket money of 550. Dkr per week (or a minimum of 2200Dkr per month).
‘Au Pair Plus’: is similar to the Au Pair but offers pocket money of 600.00Dkr per week.
The au pair would work 35 hours per week, and spend more time with the children.
‘Mother’s Help’: work 30 hours per week, and earn 600.00 to 700.00 DKr per week
(depending on age and experience).
The family will provide the au pair with her own private room and all meals.
- The au pair is entitled to at least one and half day off per week, and one paid week of holiday every 6 months.
- After arrival in Denmark, the au pair’s National Health Insurance will be organised.
However the au pair must arrange her own private insurance for the first six weeks of her stay.
- The au pair will be provided with an updated list of other au pairs placed in Denmark,
so that there should be good possibilities to make friends.
- Every au pair is offered the possibility to take language lessons, and education in Denmark is free of charge.
The host family will help to find out which options there are in the area.
- The au pair can specify on her application whether she wants a position in an urban or a rural area,
but as Denmark is densely populated, it is never very far to a town!
The au pair is responsible for her own transportation to and from Denmark;
it would be advisable to travel with an ‘open return’ ticket.
Upon the au pair’s arrival in Denmark, most families will be able to
arrange pick up for her from the airport or train station.
To apply for for aupair in Denmark you need
- Complete the application form
- Four passport-sized photos of yourself and a photo-collage
(best pictures of those of you with children, your family, doing sports, professional photos, etc.)
- The passport-sized photos can be obtained from any photo booth, as found in most malls, or a passport office.
- Two written references (childcare related ones are best).
- Medical certificate from your doctor (brief note stating that you are in good health).
- Dear Host Family letter
(short letter about yourself, your experience with children, your hobbies, why you wish to au pair in Denmark, etc.)
Once your complete application has been received, a family will be selected which
most suits your requirements; they will send you their details, a personal
letter and perhaps a family photo. You may also receive a telephone call from
the family, before you receive their details.
SPAIN
The Au Pair in Spain Program has worked with great success for more than 25 years
and there are many young people of different nationalities who participate,
giving them the opportunity to experience Spanish life and customs. The families
are carefully selected and interviewed; the Host Families welcome the Au Pair
into their home as a family member, not as an employee or boarder. The Au
Pair is included in family outings, holiday celebrations, and other social
events and vacations wherever possible.
Eligibility
All the Au Pair candidates must:
- Be females of at least 18 years old,
- Speak a little Spanish or conversational English,
- Have earned a High School diploma or certificate,
- Be of good character. All candidates are screened and references are checked,
- Enjoy working with and have practical experience caring for children,
- Be in good health, and be a non-smoker, or be willing not to smoke in a host family’s home.
Host families provide
- Own room, full board and a weekly allowance. As follows:
Regular Au Pair: The families that live in the center of the city will pay 54 Euros per week, and 60
Euros for the families who live outside the city, for 30 work hours per week.
Au Pair Plus: The families that live in the center of the city will pay 84 Euros per week, and
90 Euros for the families who live outside the city, for 40 work hours per week.
The Au Pair will receive a one week vacation after a 6 months stay, and two weeks vacation for a
12 month stay.

When you are ready to apply, you will need to provide the following:
- Completed Au Pair application form
- 4 wallet size photos
- Copy of passport
- Medical certificate
- 2 letters of recommendation: one of which is for childcare
- Dear Host Family letter
(introducing yourself, telling about your background, family, hobbies, childcare experiences, etc.)
Duties and Responsibilities of the Au pair:
- Providing the host family with child care for up to 30 hours per week, primarily helping with the relative
tasks of the children, and also assisting/tutoring the family in her native language.
- The hours of work usually 5 hours per day, 6 days per week, with one free day; or 6 hours per day, 5 days per week,
with two free days per week. Timetables may differ during school holidays.
- Keeping your room tidy and clean, doing your own laundry, and managing your own personal expenses
(e.g. telephone bills, entertainment etc.) and budgeting accordingly.
- Driving or taking children to and from school, appointments, outing or errands.
- The Au Pair may be asked to accompany the family on vacation, especially during summer months.
The au pair will also have a chance to attend Spanish language classes.
Visas & Travel Costs:
EU Citizens do not need a visa to au pair in Spain. For non-EU citizens, all
necessary documentation to come to Spain is provided. You simply need to contact
your local Spanish consulate (embassy) and request a visa. Non-EU citizens
will need to attend a Spanish Language course (15 class minimum) before their
arrival, to obtain their visa for a stay of more than three months in Spain
Every
Au pair is responsible for their round trip costs, to and from their country,
to come to Spain
Medical Insurance:
EU citizens have all health costs covered by the Social Health Security of Spain.
The au pairs must have obtained an E-111 form, before leaving their country,
which will enable them to enter the Social Security System of Spain. Non-
EU citizens must be able to present documentation of medical insurance of
another kind.
